Personality Disorders

Personality disorders

A personality disorder is a mental health illness characterised by persistent, all-encompassing, and disruptive patterns of thought, behaviour, mood, and interpersonal relationships. These habits cause a person a lot of pain and/or make it difficult for them to function.

Personality disorders can lead to erroneous reality views, deviant actions, and unhappiness in a variety of areas of life, including employment, relationships, and social functioning. People with personality disorders may also be unaware of their problematic behaviours or the detrimental impact they have on others. There is currently no known mechanism to avoid personality disorders, however psychological treatment may alleviate many of the associated issues. Seeking care as soon as symptoms develop can help to minimise the impact on a person’s life, family, and friendships.
